Is your Leadership Enabling Execution?

So... you’ve done the work. You and your leadership team have identified the business results you want to achieve and the strategy to get there. Now, it’s time to execute that strategy- which is where most organizations fall down. Is your leadership team equipped?

To set the foundation for successful execution, the leadership team needs to formulate a clear market position (or go-to-market strategy) and communicate it to all employees deliberately, thoughtfully, and consistently. They also have to be credible and capable of managing the changes required to maintain excellence in operations, and self-aware enough to assess their strengths and gaps to deliver against their strategic goals.

Does your leadership team have what it takes to deliver on the strategy?

Answer the questions below to find out:

  • Do your employees have trust and confidence in the leadership team to lead the execution of strategy?

  • Is the leadership team clearly communicating the strategy across the company?

  • Is the leadership team managing change effectively?

  • Are the leadership team’s actions and behaviors aligned with their strategic objectives?

If you answered “no” to one or more items above, you could benefit from an evaluation of your leadership team’s efforts to both communicate and execute the company strategy.  In addition to outlining how confident employees are in the leadership team’s performance, the evaluation also shines a light on how well employees know the strategic intent, if they embrace it, and if they believe the work they are doing will help accomplish the goals.  For superlative execution, these dots must connect!  This is especially true for companies that are going through significant change.

Many leaders stepped up during the crisis. However, as we return to growth and greater stability in the post-pandemic market, leaders should not lessen their efforts to articulate and reinforce their vision and goals, and to ensure they are understood, accepted, and acted upon by all.

As Walt Disney once said, “Your frontline represents your bottom line.”  Is your leadership team doing all it needs to do to ensure your front line is aligning with the vision and goals you worked hard to shape?

In our next blog, we will consider the importance of Balanced Metrics.
