Emerging Stronger with Emotional Intelligence

If the past 14 months have left you at times feeling confused, run-down, fatigued, grumpy, disconnected, disenchanted, and even hopeless, you are not alone! It is almost unimaginable - what some people have experienced and endured, and how some continue to be challenged.

But there is a sense of “we’re getting there.” You can hear it in conversations people are having before Zoom or Teams meetings start. And you can see it when you’re out in traffic or going places where significantly more cars and people are moving and gathering.

Based on the “Change Curve” featured below, we could argue that some of us have moved from the Disruption Stage (shock, fear, anger, frustration, hopelessness) to the Exploration Stage (increased vitality, hope, feeling better, feeling more focused). And some of us may already be solidly in the Rebuilding Stage where there is a sense of commitment, clarity, and confidence that we can do this.

No matter where you may find yourself or your team on the Change Curve, and as pandemic restrictions are lifted and the pace of life increases, there are some simple things you can focus on to EMERGE STRONGER. Emerging Stronger will be the focus on a series of short pieces we’ll be sharing over the next couple of weeks. We’ll unpack what we refer to as the BIG FIVE skills of Emotional Intelligence- Emotional Self-Awareness, Empathy, Impulse Control, Reality Testing, and Stress Tolerance. If you have capacity in these areas, chances are you’ll be navigating the Change Curve more effectively and quickly, and with less agony.
