Fearless Organization Scan

In the words of Dr. Amy Edmondson, “Psychological safety is the soil, not the seed.” Based on her groundbreaking work at Harvard Business School, The Fearless Organization Scan gauges the level of psychological safety within a team. That is to say, it measures the level of interpersonal comfort to identify problems, voice concerns, and challenge the norms that stifle team growth and performance.

What is the Fearless Organization Scan?

How does the Fearless Organization Scan work?

The Fearless Organization Scan is a simple assessment designed to be used by individual teams to determine the level of psychological safety within it. Taking less than 10 minutes to complete, it offers seven prompts and is highly scalable to any team. The resulting report is reviewed with the entire team to create a more open dialogue about those elements that may be inhibiting open and safe communication within the team itself. It also provides a baseline for ongoing tracking of the psychological safety within a team.

What can the Fearless Organization Scan do for you and your team?

Because psychological safety is based on three key variables – the leader’s behavior, organizational context, and the team itself – The Fearless Organization Scan provides objective data for all three that can be addressed in the team session that follows the assessment. By creating dialogue based on objective feedback from the team itself, more practical and workable solutions typically emerge. The manager will also benefit from The Leader’s Toolkit which creates a practical framework for establishing a better foundation for psychological safety.
